DESIGNERS

At mooch-y, we champion designers who believe good design starts with an idea... one that is refined, tested and crafted until it finds its place in your home. Every piece we stock has been on a lengthy journey from sketchbook through to consultation, studio, production and finally into our homes. They are shaped by makers who care about how things feel, function and last.

These are creators who favour originality over imitation and craftsmanship over convenience. By supporting them, you’re choosing design with intention and helping make authentic, lasting design accessible to everyone.

Simon Legald

Simon Legald

Normann Copenhagen

Simon Legald graduated from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in the summer of 2012.

His work consists of both small- and large scale products. Simon's designs are often created in a dialogue between craftsmanship and industry. He also likes to incorporate the techniques that are necessary for the structure of a product into the design by highlighting them visually.

"Honesty is what makes a product understandable and is what describes the products functionality. If you understand the product, it does not need any explanation.

Hannes & Fritz

Hannes & Fritz

Normann Copenhagen, HAY

Hannes & Fritz is a design duo working between Stuttgart and Zürich, where Johannes and Fritz develop each project through an iterative, back-and-forth process. They first met during their Master’s program in Product Design at ECAL in Lausanne, discovering a shared passion for hands-on experimentation and an intuitive approach to design. They gained experience at studios and in diverse design project across Zürich, Los Angeles, Hong Kong & Milan, and it was a self-produced limited-edition bench that quickly sold out, that ultimately led them to found their studio in 2019. This confirmed their belief in their creative synergy and marked the beginning of their journey as a design studio.

For Hannes & Fritz, design is about discovering logic in the unexpected—an interplay between functionality and subtle surprises. Their process is deeply rooted in craftsmanship, frequently working in their workshop, allowing ideas to emerge through making. They embrace a philosophy where no single vision dominates; instead, their designs are shaped by discussion, challenge, and evolution, resulting in objects that feel distinctly ‘them.’

“The best indicator of good design,” they reflect, “is when you see it for the first time and think, ‘Wow, I could have had that thought.’ It feels so obvious, yet entirely new.” For Normann Copenhagen, Hannes & Fritz have designed the Haus Toolbox, a refined take on the nowadays common plastic toolbox, now reimagined in metal and wood. Through its thoughtful materiality and clean yet characterful aesthetic, the Haus Toolbox exemplifies Hannes & Fritz’s approach: functional, familiar, and built to last.

Allesandro Mendini

Allesandro Mendini

Normann Copenhagen, Alessi, Magis, Kartell

Alessandro Mendini (1931–2019) was an Italian architect, designer, and theorist who played a pivotal role in shaping Postmodern and Radical design. A visionary in his field, Mendini challenged conventional notions of function, embracing decoration, symbolism, and emotional expression in his work. His designs spanned furniture, interiors, architecture, and graphic art, each piece carrying his unmistakable artistic signature.

Mendini’s contributions earned him multiple Compasso d’Oro awards, including a lifetime achievement honor in 2014. His legacy continues to inspire designers worldwide, ensuring that his bold, unconventional approach remains a cornerstone of contemporary design.

Among his most celebrated works is the Poltrona di Proust (1978), a reimagination of a classic Baroque chair, hand-painted with a vibrant pointillist pattern- an embodiment of his philosophy that design should provoke thought and emotion. This iconic pattern - developed with Elisa and Fulvia Mendini (Alessandro Mendini Archive) - now adorns Normann Copenhagen’s Delta Proust Side Table, made from recycled plastic. Delta Proust features the signature Proust motif in a palette of seven colors, complemented by two shades of white, reinterpreting Mendini’s legacy in a modern take, taking the future into account.

Studio Yolk

Studio Yolk

Normann Copenhagen

Founded in 2020 by Morten Linde and Pernille Iben, STUDIO YOLK is a creative venture rooted in their 37-year partnership. With two of their three children actively involved, the family-based studio merges art and design. Both graduates of The Royal Danish Academy of Art, Morten specialized in product and furniture design, while Pernille Iben excelled in graphic design and illustration. Furthermore, their educational journey extended beyond design, as both Morten and Pernille Iben pursued degrees in psychotherapy, adding a unique perspective to their creative work and bridging the physical and psychological realms of expression. The creation of STUDIO YOLK in 2020 became a redefining moment for the couple, an exploration of how they could channel their shared passion for design and art into a collaborative family endeavor.

STUDIO YOLK’s background in psychology is inseparably linked to their art and design background. The therapeutic development they have experienced personally and professionally informs their work, as they see both physical and psychological aspects as interdependent forms of expression. Their creations serve as therapeutic outlets, fulfilling aesthetic and functional needs, while aiming to evoke profound emotions within the beholder. With Morten's focus on furniture and product design and Pernille Iben's expertise in fine art, their collaboration yields purposeful and meaningful designs.

Sami Kallio was born in Helsinki, Finland and grew up in Gothenburg, Sweden. He is educated as a furniture carpenter and holds a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Furniture and Interior Architecture from HDK-Valand - Academy of Art and Design.

In 2011, he established his own studio and workshop in Gothenburg, focusing on wood - a material he has a lifelong passion for, having honed his skills in traditional woodworking craftsmanship, such as compression moulding and woodturning, in Sweden. The studio combines modern industrial techniques with handcrafted methods to design furniture and interiors that blend classic shapes into contemporary expressions. The goal of every design is to ensure durability and availability to the public.
Inspiration can come from anywhere, and it's crucial to him that the visual form, material, and function harmonize.

"I am a very hands-on individual, so many of my discoveries and developments take place in wood, within the workshop. Recurring themes in my work revolve around the intersection of tradition and modern technology."
